No luck here, still does not work.
with (seems incompatible) libxml2 hpsmhd runs, but does not parse xml correctly - thus returning garbled output, if any.
hpsmh uses libxml2.so.2.7.2 - which in Debian requires the libc6 version of 'squeeze'
